Eligibility and Requirements

Minimum Eligibility

  • An undergraduate or graduate student from any major at a Georgia college or university
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) during Summer (May 17th – August 6th)
  • Have reliable transportation to get to/from work

Competitive Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest/experience in smart cities/communities topics
  • Demonstrated interest/experience in community service
  • Skills aligned with project needs (read individual project descriptions)

Internship Requirements and Deliverables

  • Must be able to commit to the entirety of the Smart Community Corps internship (May 17th – August 6th)
  • Meet program goals and expectations set with placement supervisor at the beginning of internship
  • Participate fully in weekly SCC and SLS required programming with Smart Community Corp cohort and SCC team
  • Each intern will be required to take over the SCI2 Twitter account for a week during the summer to share information about their project
  • Interns will be required to prepare a Blog Post detailing their internship experience which may be posted on website and in our newsletter
  • Each intern will prepare a mid-term and final project presentation to be presented on Thursday, August 5th. The final presentation will be recorded, and our GA Smart Partners and Community Representatives will be invited to attend
  • Each summer, our GA Smart Communities are announced, and the current SCC interns are acknowledged during the announcement through a video introduction. Interns will be given instructions to complete a brief, 2 minute video introduction of themselves
  • Each intern will complete an end-of-summer survey on their SCC experience which will be due on the last day of the internship
  • Presentation at Georgia Smart Communities Challenge Workshop in September and joint presentation with Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain Internship participants in August

Application Process

  • Students will apply via the Smart Community Corps Internship application by February 26th, 2021. A current resume/CV and one letter of recommendation are required.
  • Select applicants will be invited to interview virtually with project community team and SCC staff
  • Applicants will be notified by March 17th as to whether they have been chosen as a finalist
  • Offer letters will be extended to finalists by no later than March 22nd
  • Accepted, signed offer letters are due by to our office no later than March 26th
